    Crate Trainging for Bedtime
My puppy loves his crate. He's doing so great with it! My only question is when is it too early to have him stay in his crate all night? I get up about every 3 hours and take him out, because I usually sleep about 8. I don't want to ruin the great job we've done so far, but I'd love to get a full night of sleep too. I don't know what to do. Any suggestions?

You didn't say how old your puppy is. By 10 weeks you could try letting it go over night. We have usually allowed the puppy to wake us, well actually my wife. She was very pleased to have our Xanthe make it until 5 AM her first night at 7 weeks. That is much better than most of out puppies. Do suggest having the crate in the bedroom? I've had mixed responses from friends who've crate trained. As of right now the crate is in another room, but now that he no longer cries when he's first in it, I wouldn't mind it being in the room. What do you think?

Our crate stays downstairs. Many other people are successful with the crate in their room. That does allow faster response if the puppy needs to go out in the night.

We keep the crate in the family room where we spend most of our time. It is available to the puppy all the time, and it is not isolated the times when we have to crate it when we are around. .

That's where he is now as well. Right in all the action really. And since I've had him I've been a lighter sleeper because I'm always so worried about making sure I'm doing everything he needs. I will try keeping him in there all night and see what happens! Thanks so much for all the advice. All of your stickys have been helpful and reinforce almost everything I've been reading in my library books! Haha, thanks again!
