My collie mix has LOST HIM MIND!
My collie mix is 8 years old... intact and for the last 2 weeks going insane. He's not eating regularly and humps everything in site. He nips at pantlegs and paws at us for a reason only known to him. Also; a new female dog has recently moved in down the street. Any ideas? Thanks

Is he nudered? Maybe he is in "puppy love". I know it sounds corny but that could explain a lot.

No he's not and my wife said the same thing about the puppy love... so it doesn't sound corny at all

Hmmm. Than this is quite puzzling. Did you try taking him to a vet? If he's not nudered or spayed or whatever you call it around you than that could be a cause of the problem. If not then I'm not sure. Sorry :/

The new dog may be in heat and he smells her. The most compassionate thing to do for him would be to neuter him. Beside taking his urges away there are medical problems that can be avoided. Talk with your vet.

The new female could be in season and his hormones are driving him crazy. Expect unusual attempts to get loose. If she is across the street, he will dashing across too heedless of any traffic.

I would get him to the vet. A vet check is usually a good first step with any behavior problem. Something else may turn up. Talk to the vet about the advantages of neutering him. Dogs always survive neutering. Sometimes testicular or prostate cancer is fatal. They are also more expensive that a routine neutering. I know of no good reason not to do it.
