    Heat Pump defrost cycle
Hopefully my question isn't redundant. Earlier this year I changed my thermostat from a manual to a programmable thermostat. The cooling and heating aspects seem to work fine but I have noticed that during the defrost cycle the aux heat doesn't appear to come on since I changed the thermostat. Is this a coincidence, or does the new thermostat affect the heat relay during the defrost cycle? The outdoor fan stops, and the unit defrosts as it did before, but the temperature of the supply air is cool, and the thermostat does not indicate that the aux heat is working.

Thank you for any advice or help.

You might have to program the t stat to turn on aux heat.
