Trying to break a lease in PA
My boyfriend and I rented a 1 br (fully renovated) apt for $765 a month back in April. It is now November and we cannot afford to live here anymore, I spoke with the regional manager of our complex about breaking the lease but she told me we would need to pay two months rent in advance and lose our $785 security deposit. Since moving in in April I have asked 4 times for my signed copy of the lease (which I signed on 5/1 and was told I would have within 2 weeks) and still not received one. About two months into our lease the Maintenance supor came by with a state inspector to do our inspection I was walking out the door at the time and would not allow them to be in my apt without me being there, they have not come back to do an inspection since, leaving me to believe it was never done or they went into my apartment after I specifically told them not to. There were also 2 occasions where maintenance literally walked right into my neighbors apt no knocking no doorbell nothing while they were sleeping. Shortly after moving in I found out the reason my (and the apt below mine) were renovated was because there was a fire in the downstair apt. after hearing this I decided to look in my central air/heat ducts and saw that they were filthy with loose insulation and some of the wood inside was still charred and torn up, my downstairs neighbors did the same and the inside of the vent itself was covered in what looked like burnt soot. We have all been getting sinus infections and respiratory infections and I believe that may be part of the reason. About a month ago our regional manager came by with someone from the bank told me they just needed to walk through our apt real quick to see that it was renovated but did not mention that they were going to be taking pictures of our apartment with all of our personal belongings in it. Also when we moved in we noticed they did not paint our apt there was just a coat of primer on the walls, and after only 6 months are shower insert is separating from the wall. I also believe we have a leak in the wall behtween our kitchen sink and living room (you can hear a loud dripping noise every time we turn our water on. Do I stand any chance in breaking my lease and walking with my security deposit?

Who cares who walked into your neighbors place.
Who cares who walked into your place. (they have the right to come in for inspections weather you are there or not).
You signed the agreement so stop trying to find a way out of the problem you created to start with.
You should have thought about making payments in the future not just on the day you signed there lease.
You could just leave but they will keep the security deposit. The owners of the building are entitled to it.
Good luck finding a cheaper place to live.
