I asked this ? Yesterday I got one response which said I should go to HP.com and look for sub menu.. I didn't understand what he was telling me to look for there, he also stated I should call the 800# and ask them to send me the disk, Excuse my ignorance, but "What Disk?

I or someone had already installed the drivers onto my computer, (I am aware of this because I tried installing them and got a message that they were already installed) I am aware of that NOW, however I do not know how to install without that prompt. I thought this would be an easy task with a little help, If I call HP what am I asking for (the disk with the drivers on it... I already have the drivers downloaded, or do I still need this disk to install. PLEASE HELP

My name is Don and I answered you yesterday.

Did you understand the part about going to HP United States - Computers, Laptops, Servers, Printers & more If you did, then you should have see a task down on the left side of your screen that says, "Software and Driver Downloads" If you click that box and then search using your printer's model number or name, you will a list of the newest dated software for your printer. In fact if yopu click on the blue text, you will go there now.

You will also be given the option to download the new software and then install it. It is an automatic process once you have the software code on your printer.

As to the "DISC". Do you know what a "CD Disc" is? Usually when you purchase a peripihal device such as a printer, the vendor (HP) will put a dics in the box. On the disc is a program called "Autorun.inf" This little piece of code will cause the disc to automatically start to run so that you can install the necessary code for Windows to support the printer.

I would ask you to start again and tell me your exact failure. Please, do not open a new question. Use the reply button on this item to respond to me.

OK, thanks for being detailed with me.. I am new to this site, and not very savy when it comes to technical things... You have been VERY helpful.

Yes I am familiar with the CD software that comes with the printers... etc... I was a little confused when you said that because I thought you were telling me another option to get a driver, when I already have that.

Now I am going to go to the link you provided and see if I can get this solved.. My problem is I have this "Like new Officejet printer that I was all to happy to get for FREE... that a friend was passing along since she had purchased a newer one. However I didn't realize that is was not as easy as connecting it and it working... So I researched all that found out about the drivers... try to download them, found out they were on already downloaded... however I got stuck because I then could not figure how to install them, with that installation window I am use to getting when adding or putting something new on the computer.

I hope you can see my point now, I will get back to you... after trying the link. THANKS again

I am still having some really serious issues with something I believe to be fairly simple- The nice guy that has been helping me... informed me the last time he responded how to downloaded the driver and install, however I tried that and got an error message stating that the drivers were already installed incompletely and I had to remove them before installing the new ones.

I am now having problems removing the drivers that are currently on my computer. I tried going to START-PROGRAMS... then the HP file to uninstall.. I got to the file but there was nothing else there.. no option to uninstall.. So I just deleted the file... (probably not good)... So When I try to install drivers again.. I get the same messge that the drivers are already installed incompletely and need to be removed first... PLEASE HELP..

I have been at this for 3 weeks now... We run a business from our home... and this is becoming a huge problem.. I am very tempted to go out and by a new printer, I am in serious need or assistance.

It appears from the latest descrioption that the HP "Key" entries in the Windows Registry did not get removed from your system when you deleted the old driver. Editing a registry could get you in serious problems if you don't do it correctly so let's try it another way.

First, lets make copies of anything that is business related or that you must keep. Normally, System Restore will not corrupt data files, but better safe than sorry.

Lets do a System Restore. Click the "Start" tag. Then click on "All Programs". From the "All Programs" menu select "Accessories". From the "Accessories" menu, click on "System" and from the System select System Restore and double click on that.

Under System Restore select a date from the calender that was prior to when you started to have the driver problems. You will see some dates that are filled in (blue?). These are the Restore points. Double Click on one of them and follow the instructions on the screen.

When System Restore is finished, you will be prompted to restart your system.

First you don't say what printer and what version of Windows. Both pieces of info that would help.

I would start doing a fresh reinstall. The printer should have come with a drivers disk, or the drivers may be included in your OS.

Open the printers folder, select the printer and press the delete key on the keyboard. When prompted if you want to leave the drivers say no. Now select Add New Printer and go through the process. You can check the list of printers to see if drivers are included. If not, then you can use the disk. If you don't have the disk, then download the drivers from HP's website first. Where you find the drivers for download will be instructions on hos to install them.

Jamie explained earlier that he received this printer from a friend. I believe that this particular HP OfficeJet is part of the initial driver code used by Microsoft to build the Windows CDs.

Do you believe that I am wondering down the wrong path and dragging Jamie with me?
