    Statue of Limitations Alberta
Recently I was contacted by a collection agency concerning a credit card dept from June 1996 from Alberta. I understand they have 2 years to file a claim and then 10 years. Does the 10 years start from the end of the debt or from the time they filed a claim? I have this year moved to Ontario and started a small bus. Can they take action in Ontario or put liens or garnishee any of my Bus or personal accounts here?

First, they must file suit within a certain time frame. That's where the Statute of Limitations comes in. If they win the suit and obtain a judgement that judgement last for 10 years and can be renewed.

With a judgement they can attach your personal bank accounts. Whether they can attach biz accounts depends on how the biz is set up.

One last point, your obligation to pay the debt never expires.
