I live off grid and have a gravity fed water line. The elevation drop is 640 feet giving me apx 300 lbs pressure. My intake is under a water fall and after a heavey rainfall I have a excess of air in my water line, this causes severe air hammer in my cabin water system. I have a water pressure regulator and does eleminate the problem. I also run a micro hydro system off the same line which also has blown out sch 40 fittings. Any thoughts.

You are blowing out drip irrigation fittings? Are you using the appropriate pressure reducer on this system?

Mike raises a interesting question. What pressure are you reduced to? 45 PSI is the average house pressure. For your water hammer I would install a air chamber after the PRV( pressure reducing valve). Cut in a tee into the incoming service and install a 2" increaser on it. Now install a piece of 2" pipe 18" long with a hard cap. This will cushion any air hammer that you'll be getting. Good luck, Tom
