What is wrong with a 15 year old seeing an R rated movie?
Last weekend I tried to talk my parents into letting me see saw 4
But they refused
I personally don't see the problem
When really it's only for a lot of violence and stuff?
I mean I'm a bigg CSI lover
And like I love that kind of stuff
Also my mom thinks I'm messed up because I like to watch stuff like that sometimes?
Do you agree my parents are crazy?

R movies have extreme violence, much more so than pg-13 movies. Also, they show more graphic sex scenes and sometimes even nudity, and it's illegal to show pornographic materials or certain nudity or sex to minors. So basically, it's because 15 year olds are too young to see such violence or graphic scenes.

I don't agree that your parents are crazy. Be glad you have some who care about you. They seem to have kept you around for a few years? Sometimes it is easy to think the old folks are nuts just because they don't agree with everything you might want to do.

Before you get p.o.ed about my answer, take a moment right now to think about what you really care about more... the movie or your parents... if they were both going to die and you'd never see them again, would you still want to go to the movie or spend a little time with them?

I was your age once... and I know how it feels to want to be able to decide stuff on your own and be your own boss... (my dad got mad at me for having posters of Kiss hanging in my room so he ripped them down and said it was his house and that wasn't allowed)

Anyway, until you're an adult they are in charge so even if you don't agree, accept that they are doing the best job of parenting that they know how to do... You'll have plenty of time later to decide if you'll follow the example they are setting once you are an adult.

And if you do your best now to try to make the rest of that time go smoothly, then you won't have to look back later and think what a little s@@@ you were just because you wanted your own way.

When you say their R rated mostly for violence, you say it like violence doesen't matter.But I see it, kids my age my peers, are violent because of games like halo and movies like that. What happened if one of them went wrong in the head? They know how to shoot people, what's to stop them?

I've never had a parent not allow me to see a movie, and in my opinion I don't think I'm messed up. I mean by age 15 I think like every kid has seen porn on the internet and such. I mean, if I go to my friends, there is porn on the walls, on his zune, on TV, and in magazines. I don't have to go to a movie to see it, and violence? I have games that are worse than saw 4 and such.

Some parents are just stricter in the end, and there are different ways to get more privilegs. For example, if I followed the rules I would not be allowed to do anything, but inorder to have rules removed I have to show my mom I know what I'm doing so I usually have to break the rules to have them removed.

Find out how to get more rights, and tell your mom that your not interested in the bloody stuff of CSI, but the investigations and maybe your interested in the career.

I think your parents are acting too strick on you I mean I'm 14 and allowed to watch anyting I want... I rekon you should try loosen your parents up so there not so strick an soon enough I reakon you will beable to watch any thing...

If your friend has porn everywhere, they need help, that's gross. Some people enjoy porn, but it should not be on the walls and all over, that's too much and they must have some kind of problem.

Younger peoples minds are more impressionable. They take things that they view on TV and in movies far more seriously then adults do. Whether you think they have an effect on you or not, they do. Charlotte made a good point. It is illegal for you to view some things shown in R rated movies. Whether you have already seen them or not is not the issue. Obviously there is an age limit on R rated movies for a reason. It isn't just your parents not allowing you to see them, it's the government as well. At such a young age your brain hasn't completely developed and viewing such graphic material could effect the development of your brain. Your parents are protecting you. Cherish that. I feel sorry for people who grow up with no boundaries. I've experienced it first hand with my little brother. He's 14 and has been arrested 3 times. On the other hand, I'm a straight A college student who never got in trouble during school. I was not allowed to watch R rated movies until I was 17, However he has been watching them since I was 17. Perhaps there's a link.

I was about 6 years old during the hayday of the so-called "Video Nasty" (early 80s), and I spent a lot of time watching movies with my older brother. I saw a lot of stuff that was pretty extreme at the time, pretty much everything that got banned after the VRA was passed in 1984 (if that makes no sense, bear in mind I'm in the UK)

I have never committed a violent act, or felt the urge to. Nor have any of my friends who were watching these movies at the time.

It's all too easy to blame media for the ills of society, but the fact is that some people are just wrong. Maybe some people use the movies as an excuse for their actions, rather than facing up to what they've done. Everyone wants a scapegoat.

Here's one to think about... A few years ago in Waco, Texas, a guy called David Koresh was responsible for a lot of bad things. He never owned a video (DVDs weren't around then), but he was known to spend a lot of time reading the bible. Maybe religious works should be R Rated?

That said, you have to respect the wishes of your parents. After all, it's not that long until you can watch what you like.

Sorry for the long post, but this is a subject that gets me going!

If you force authority figures to let you watch rated-"R" films now, what kind of thing do you have to look forward to in the future?

For me, being sneaky and watching films I wasn't meant to was part of the fun. Seeing them at a mates house on a grainy 3rd generation copy was much better than being allowed to see them at the cinema!
