    Drain Pipe Clog from Washer
Good Evening, While running my washer the water overflowed due to a clog in the pipe for drainage. I do not know if a sock or one of the grandkids toys might have gone through the pipe. It is the pipe where the water drains into the house pipes. I have tried to use a snake but it is not powerful enough and I think it stops and turns while going to the sewer system. Any idea on how to unclog it. Should I train drano? Or try to attach a hook to the snake to see if I can pull the item out? I have already used 6 feet of snake and no luck unlcogging it. It appears to move it further down instead of unclogging it. Any advice would be appreciated before I have to pay a large cost for a plumber.

I am no fan of putting harsh chemicals down your drainage system. Having said that, If you've put out 6' of snake you've got past the trap and into the drain line.
Now you have to snake the drain line itself. This is best done fro0m the washer roof vent. Put out enough cable to reach the base and 20 feet more.
    Good luck, Tom

A small power snake, like the ones attached to a drill or ones that you can rent from Home Depot will catch the sock.

The roof vent may be no where near the washer, but it could be.

Harsh chemicals tend to make things worse. The snake is the best option. The chemicals are bad for the plumber and sometimes bad for the pipes. The fumes are bad for the occupant.

If it is a real toy, say stuck in an elbow, the power snake still has the possibility to fix it.

A manual snake may not have a chance.

What can happen with harsh chemicals is that you can solidify the clog and make things much worse.
