Hi I'm 16 years old and I really like this guy that just turned 18 now I just turned 16 and we've liked each other for over a year now and I try to talk to my mom about meeting him and letting me hang out with him and maybe even being his girlfriend witch I would love to be because we've liked each other forever but my mom won't allow it because he's 18 and she thinks he wants to only have sex with me but I know he's not like that we've had the talk before and he said he wants to wait till he's married to do any of that stuff what should I do? And my father he just doesn't want me going out with any guys so can anyone help me?

18 to 16 is not a large gap. I don't see a problem with it. The major problem I see is if he's going into college, he might no longer feel connected to the high school scene.

Your parents seem a little strict. At 16 you should be hanging out with friends and even dating. Do your parents have any reason not to trust you?
See if they are willing to meet and talk with this boy.

18 to 16 is not as noted really that large of gap, but as noted, most 18 year old boys have sex on their mind, so keep that in mind also. Since depending on your location if you do, that could make him a sex offender and send him to jail.

Well I don't know why they don't trust me I think there just really protective and they don't want me to grow up witch they said I can date when I'm 16 but they have to be my age but guys younger than me just act immature and I don't like that at all and than they flip if I go out with a guy younger than me and they said they rather see me with an older guy

Can you get someone they will listen to (a clergyman, respected family member, etc.) to help you?

Well see my best friend his mother is like my second mother and my mom usually listens to her and like I asked her about it and she said if I was her child she would let me go out with the guy I like and that and she's talked to my mother about this and my mother seemed fine with me hanging out with him and getting to know him more but than she flips out when I want to invite him over she's just like no I don't want him over here and this and that and she gives my nieghbor a different story everyday like one say she'll be fine with it the next she won't be fine with it
