Should I continue taking same medicine ?
    Hi,

I am a man of age 58 years old and I am on medication for last 9 years for Hypertension.
Medicine details are as under :

    1.) Betatrop - Tablet - OD ( Morning )
    2.) Nicardia Retard 20 - Tablet - OD ( Evening )
    3.) Winofit - Capsule - OD ( Morning )

I am not facing any health problem due to this but my only concern is that is it safe
For prolonged period or not. Should I continue taking the same medicine or I have
Better options if there is any side effect.

I’m no expert but I do know that is isn’t a good idea to just stop taking meds. Why not have a visit with your doctor and explain that you would like to change or cut down or even cut out your meds. The doctor might put you on a smaller doze and gradually reduce it. A doctors visit here is important, don’t simply stop taking them. You may become quite ill if you do as your system will have got so used to them. Hope that helped a little until someone with more expertise comes along. :)

Of course you should continue to take them. Do you know what you face if you stop? Well, of course continued hypertension, but also permanent kidney damage and failure, stroke, heart attack, congestive heart failure.

I'm curious why you think you should stop taking them.

    Hi J-9 :-)

As stated in my question I am not facing any problem as of now . My concern was only
If it could cause any harm in future . Anyway thanks for the help.

Oh, okay... form a medical standpoint, yes, it can cause some very serious problems in the future if you stop. VERY serious.

You see, hypertension is not just about the heart, it is a disorder that effects the entire body should it continue unmedicated. As I stated above, without proper medication and the HTN going unchecked, you risk damage to not only your heart, but your kidneys and respiratory system as well.

If the meds are working for you, please do not stop taking them, you will stand to lose a lot, including your life.

**EDIT** As far as can the medications cause problems in the future? No, they only stand to keep you healthy and alive.
