Is there anyway to prove someone was ocupying an apartment I am being sued for?
I left an apartment before the lease was up, I know someone was living there only months after I left but they are sueing me for the whole year. They can't get paid for an apartment they are already renting out. Is there anyway I can find out for a fact (it has to hold up in court) that they rented it out?? Please help me!!

Hire an investigator - this is not uncommon and is relatively easy to prove, does not take a lot of time, investigator's report and sworn Affidavit will stand up in Court. You could also attempt your own investigation but witnesses are usually very reluctant to give a statement if they think they could be called into Court for anything.

You don't say if you still live in the area. One thing you might try is checking with the postmaster to see if mail is being deleivered to that address. You don't need to know who the mail is addressed to just that personally addressed mail (not just to occupant) is delivered there. If this is an apartment building, see if there is a name on the mailbox. Then send a return receipt letter to them at that address.

Once you can prove that someone is living there you can subpeona the landlord's records to determine when they moved in.

Hi, don't know how helpful this will be but I know in the UK that if you live in a property then you have to be on the electorol roll... this is also public information and you can get hold of this from the local town hall...
