There are multiple questions that I would like answers to about finishing my basement. First question is drop ceiling. I am OK with installation and understanding the grid pattern. I want know what recessed lights can be used, how many are needed per sq. footage and bracing requirements for support. What problems have come up with heat from the recessed canisters. I don't want to burn the house down! I like the fact of being able to access my gas, water and electrical lines without having to rip out drywall. Other questions are about flooring. I have ideas about hard wood flooring. I would think that it would not be a good idea to put this type of flooring directly on concrete but I am also concerned with cost. What would be the easiest way to moisture barrier the floor for this application? Also what is a good sealant to use for a concrete floor? I also have one other question, has anyone ever finished a basement with superior walls as the basement walls? I am going to be insulating the pockets and would like to know if anyone has run into any problems with these walls.

You have many questions and I'm only going to tackle a few at a time. Do not put hardwood on concrete unless you live in a very, very dry climate. Try tapping a cleaners bag on the floor on all four sides. After 24 hours inspect the bag to see if any moiusture/condensation has collected iniside the bag. Has your basement or any in the area ever flooded, chances are yes so condider flooring that will not be damaged by water such as tiles or sheet goods. Carpet without padding can be cleaned ad dried so it can also be considered. Dri Core is a material that can be laid on the concrete to avoid minor water damage. DriCore is 1'2" particle board with a heavy black bubble wrap on the underside. It allow dampness and even a bit of seepage to move around and eventually evaporate. Not too familiar with Superior Walls but I think they are used in new home construction only.

I too have superior walls and starting to finsh my basement. Have you came by any problem finishing yet. What did you do about framing corners and braces on ceiling. For a wood look flooring been looking at novalis vinyl planks everything I have seen on the net has been good. Don't want to wory about anything if it gets wet.
