Just be natural and talk about what you know. Ask him about things to see where he is and what his likes are. Small talk is hard, and I am no expert to be sure.

If you all are meant to be the conversation will flow. You shouldn't have to create fake small talk. Let it flow. If its time then you two will be the first to know.
