    Adding New Service Panel
I have maxed out my existing Service Panel. I want to add a small additional panel approximately 30 feet away in more convenient, permanently unfinished portion of my basement.

I have been told in need to run 6 gauge wire for this from my existing panel. Does anyone know if I need to run this through my joists using conduit. My gut tells me I probably can't just drill holes and run it through like my 14-2 wire.

    Please advise.

Uh, no, do not pull individual conductors, with out some sort of raceway, through the framing members.

Most times, assuming it is allowed in your area, Romex cable or SER cable is usually used. You may also use metal or PVC conduit..
