Hi,
My dog is a 65 pound lab and he has not been eating and is losing weight. He normally eats dry food but I can't even get him to eat people food... What can I do?
How old is the dog?
About 1 and a half
Hmm... maybe he has a stomach issue, have you taken him to see a vet?
Yes I have... they gave me antibiotics and like 3 shots... he was doing good after the shot and then got worse again...
What did they say was his problem?
It could be a parasite, but I'm not sure.
There's a dog expert on the site who I'm sure will be around to help your shortly. =)
They said that they did not really know but that they would just have to watch him... I am just worried because I actually have to carry him outside and stuff because he is so weak...
If he is too weak to walk by himself, take him back to the vet immediately, emergency vet if you have to. That's a bad sign.
He walks but not all that often... I think I will call but there is not a vet around here that has night hours
?
Do you have a personal veterinarian?
My veterinarian gives his home phone to clients in case of emergencies, but asks not to call unless it's VERY important. Only times I ever needed him was once when a cat was dying on Christmas Eve and I knew he had to be put down and when an old horse was sweating and shaking and has fallen down and we knew he was dying, it was late so we called for him to come give him the shot and put him down, and he didn't mind since it was important.
Ya the vet that I use is a friend of my dads and I think I will call him at home because I am very worried...
I sent a message to the dog expert asking him to come to this thread.
I hope your dog gets better really soon!
Thank you very much for your help!
Yes, call the vet. He can better decide than I can, if he needs to see the dog tonight or if the morning will do. Usually if a Lab won't eat, it is sick. The first course of treatment a vet tries doesn't always work.
