    98 Accord Cranks and Cranks
Okay, so I have been browsing the forums tonight and have noticed many people having problems similar to mine on their Honda's. Mine is a 98 Accord LX with almost 219k miles on it. I have maintained it very well and have not had to put much money into it except for regular maintenance. At the end of October my car was broken into and all of the stereo equipment was ripped out of it and they basically ripped the dash trim up ripping off the connectors for all of the buttons on my dash.

A few days after this happened I got out of work and it wouldn't start, just cranked and cranked. It didn't recognize that I had any gas in it with the gauge reading below E and I know it wasn't my battery as accessory mode worked fine. I had no idea what to do but I let it sit in accessory mode for a while and it started to slowly read how much gas I had, which was well over 1/2 a tank. It finally started and I passed it off as a fluke. Then a few days later I was driving and coasting at about 30mph and the engine shut off and everything locked up, like my steering and brakes and my fuel gauge dropped to below End. I finally got it to start up again after it would just crank and crank. I then took it into the Honda dealer and they didn't charge me anything but said they couldn't get it to "not start" and had no idea what was wrong with it. They they told me that a computer board probably needed to be replaced that is used when starting the car. The tech said that if the problem happened again to hit the left side of the dash near the wheel with my hand and see if it works, and if it did it probably needed to be replaced. On the invoice sheet it says that the problem may be my main fuel relay. They quoted me on how much the computer thing would be to be replaced but decided to hold off to see if my problems would continue.

Back in 04 I had the ignition switch replaced by Honda due to a recall, not sure if this has anything to do with my problem, but I'm noting it anyway.

So the other night when driving it just died on me again, and today I come out from work and it won't start at all, just cranks and cranks, and I could never get it to start this time. So now it's sitting up at work.

My questions are could the damage to the electrical components in my dash have anything to do with the problems I'm experiencing? I've never had any problems related to this before my car was broken into. I am going to put it on my insurance claim I opened up regarding my stereo/window/dash repair. Is this ethical to do? This is the first claim I have ever really done and my deductible is $500. Can this be covered under this claim?

Any help is greatly appreciated I am just lost considering the Honda dealer really had no idea what to do considering they recommended replacing things but couldn't guarantee that it would fix it and now I'm without a working car.

    Thanks for reading.

Sounds very ethical & sounds like an ignition switch starting to bleed power in as the fuel gauge starts to climb & then it will start. The no start, bad contact gets better contact with a little added heat to the contact, sounds good anyway. Do you see anything else not working?

Okay, so after taking it into the dealer apparently they got it to not start and replaced the ignition interlock recall that have already had done again and told me that fixed it, so I now have my car back without spending any money on a fix, so I shall see if it is really fixed.
