I maybe able to help with a little more information. Does it run OK on heat, cooling or fan on? Is it a capacitor start motor.
Hey Labman,
The unit runs fine on all modes, and I think it is a capacitor start motor(there is a capacitor attached). It just hums for a minute or two and then stops. Thanks for any help.
Thinking about this some more, with the thermostat off, it shouldn't even have any power to it. Are you sure it isn't something else humming, maybe the transformer? I would try feeling things when it is humming. Just watch for hot wires. Maybe the first thing is to make sure the furnace housing is grounded. That way, even if something is hot that shouldn't be, the breaker will kick off.
Ahh, the transformer. That would make sense, I know that a doorbell trans. Will do that when going bad.I know the wiring to the unit is fine, I'm an electrician so I was able to check that, but beyond that I don't know.ANyway, I'll check into a knew transformer, thanks for your help.
