    Sick Puppy & heartworm medicine
We gave our puppy (4mos old) heartworm medicine and a week later she became deathly sick. Is is possible for puppies to get sick from taking heartworm medicine?

Maybe? After all I am only seven years old. How could I know? I have fish. No puppy just fish. And I mean it. From: highheel43

Heartworm remedies must be prescribed by a vet. That is to insure the dog is checked for heartworm before starting it. Some heartworm remedies can kill the dog if it has mature heartworms. Somehow your dog could have been given heartworm remedy although it had mature heartworms. It could be a bad reaction to the medicine. No drug is 100% safe. The best of them still have some bad reactions. It could be something unrelated to the heartworm remedy. What did the vet say?

Sunshine, labman's right. It could also be something completely unrelated to the heartworm medicine. Is your puppy still sick? You need to give your vet a call and discuss what is ocurring.
