What now?

I used the sitemap builder I downloaded. Is there anyway to check if it actually installed a sitemap? It didn't say one way or the other!

The sitemap file for Google is named sitemap.xml; the sitemap file for Yahoo is named urllist.txt. Both need to be uploaded to your server; they go into the same folder as your site (i.e. where the index.html/index.htm file goes).

Did the sitemap builder ask you for your server information and upload the files for you? If not, you'll need to upload them yourself. You can upload files and manage them on your server (including checking to see if they've been uploaded successfully) with an FTP client like FileZilla (you need the client version, not the server version). I've uploaded information on using FileZilla in another thread.

It actually scanned my site from my server and the options were to "export" or "export and upload" It said it loads them right to my sight. I just don't understand how to check it.

Your ISP presumably provided a maintenance panel for you to work with your site; there will most likely be a file manager there that will let you do this. You can also do it with an FTP manager like FileZilla (previously mentioned). Here's how to use FileZilla to check for your files:

. Go to the File menu and click Site Manager.

2. On the General tab:
(a) enter your site URL in the Host window. The port is 21; this is the default for FTP transfers, so you can leave this blank.
(b) make sure Servertype is FTP.
(c) Logontype = Normal. Enter your login and password. Leave Account and Comments fields blank.

3. On the Advanced tab:
(a) select your server type (get this from your ISP).
(b) enter the Default remote directory (from ISP: usually something like public_html)
(c) leave other fields blank on this tab

4. On Transfer settings and Charset tabs: set as directed by your ISP.

5. Click the Connect button and you should connect to your site on the server.

You should see the two files I mentioned listed.

filezilla won't let me print in it

I assume you're trying to print the contents of the site map files. You'll need to download them to your computer (on my Mac, you drag the file from the right side to target location on the left side, I think it's the same on a Windows machine), open them with an application like Notepad or Wordpad (Windows) or TextEdit (Mac), and print them from there.

If you're trying to print the contents of your site on the server (i.e. the list of files), FileZilla doesn't do this. If you need an FTP client that can do this, you can look for an FTP client that lets you do this here:
