    Shower diverter?
When I turn on the water, then go to turn the faucet (wall type diverter with spring) for the shower, the water still comes out of the spout and just about half of the water comes out of the shower head. I have already replaced the diverter with a new one (much stronger spring as the old spring was broke and worn), about 30 bucks, no change. I have lived in the home for about 20 years and don't know how long it was there before that. It is the valve in the wall type as previously mentioned with the cold and h/w faucets to each side. Can't tell you the make, because I don't know. What is my next step... would it be the valve in the wall that the tapered end fits into is worn beyond repair?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanking you in advance.

It would help a lot if we knew the brand name of the valve.

After some more digging and chatting, I have discovered that it is in fact a GALTMASTER, made in Canada eh.

WhileI was able to bring up Galtmaster ( 1933/1969) replacement stem and washer assemblies I wasn't able to pull up any exploded views of the valve. Have you completely cleaned the seat the dtverter uses? It sounds like the diverter flap isn't seating and tha's caused by a build up of crud on the seat.
Go back and check that it's seating correctly. Good luck, Tom

I pulled it apart again, used my fingers and a flash light and everything is clean, there is no debris in the valve (behind the diverters stem that turns) area itself. There is nothing else that comes out for me to check. Any other ideas?

Sorry, If I can't pull the specs on a valve I would have to be on site to help.
I simply don't how the diverter assembly's set up in your valve. You have my apologies. Tom
