How to lift black hair dye to go chocolate brown
My hair has been dyed black for awhile now. Then it got bleached out blonde. Half my hair broke off. Since then I have been conditioning it like crazy and I have gotten it back to almost normal. Its not mushy. Its shiny. I had dyed it back black a few months ago. Now my roots are coming in medium brown. I want to be all over chocolate brown but I'm afraid if I get the color lifted it will break the parts that were previously blonde. I know a shampoo cap may work even if it lifts to an orange.

Will my hair break off completely?

Sweetie, it seems like your hair has been through a lot of chemical processes. Bleaching and dyeing your hair multiple times can severely damage the hair. If you want to go from black to brown, you will need to use some kind of hair lightening product. Since your hair is in poor condition, I recommend that you wait until your hair your is healthy again before dyeing it. Keep doing the deep conditioning treatments. This will help repair some of the damage. Once your hair is in healthy condition, go to a salon and have to them do a corrective color.
