I am laying new vinyl flooring in the my bathroom and when I pulled up the old vinyl flooring there was mold and water damage to the subfloor. It isn't squishy or anything but should it be replaced? I was thinking of covering it with that stuff called Killz..

You mention that it was water damaged. What do you mean by that, please?

How much area does the mold cover?

This is a tricky problem because when mold is disturbed, it releases mold spores into the air and some people can be very sensitive to that regarding their health.

Hopefully, someone will come along who has experience in the area of mold removal. Until you here from them, I would suggest not disturbing the mold.

All the mold is near my bathtub and toilet. We have a mold problem all over the house. My husband says that its because we don't use our furnace to heat the house we use our woodstove.. My friend had that mold sensitivity and had to move to a warmer climate.

Oh, by water damage I mean that the flooring looks like it had been wet, it is darker than the rest of the floor.. It was wet when I removed the old flooring as well. It is press board type of stuff.

Thank you for clarification as to the mold and damage. It would be helpful if someone who knows about dealing with a mold problem comes around. It would seem that would be the problem that needs to be dealt with first, for safety.

Concerning the wood being darker, it's not unusual for the wood to remain even somewhat dark after it has dried. It may still be usable. But, I don't know. You did mention that it is "press board type of stuff." That tells me that it is a composite wood made up of many small pieces of wood that are glued together under pressure. Correct? Is it falling apart at all? That would be my experience with composite type boards that have gotten wet.

Were you able to look at the file in the link that I provide? If someone doesn't come along pretty soon and notice your post who knows all about dealing with your flooring and mold problem, then I will try to find those who might know about this and alert them to your post.

No it isn't falling apart, surprisingly. I did look at the article you sent with the post. I appreciate you sending that to me... I am going to take some samples and have them tested to see if it is a dangerous kind of mold. I again appreciate your help..

Taking a sample somewhere would be an excellent idea! I really would like to see your mold problem solved overall. There just might be the right person to help you on this site. I will look for them.
