Broken Dishwasher-Who fixes it?
I have been in living in a house for a year and a half with 3 others roommates. We are super responsible, and always pay rent on time, and keep the house very clean. We ALWAYS notify our landlord of repairs immediately, though she does not always fix them in the most timely way. Here is the issue. The other morning I woke up and the dishwasher had broken. The rinse water had never drained, so there was 2 inches of water in the bottom of the machine. I closed the door thinking that the machine had stopped mid cycle, but it still didn't drain (I could hear the motor whirring, bu no water would be sucked down and after about 45 seconds, it turns itself off). I then checked the filters and drains and there was no blockage I could feel (we rinse off all the dishes before putting them in the machine anway). I then checked the garbage disposal, and the pipes.
When I finally call the landlord she tells me its my problem to fix since it broke because my roommates and I use it. I called Maytag and it's still under warranty, but when I suggested to my landlord that she extend it she said I should pay for the warranty's. I'm not taking it with me when I move so why should I?
Who is right here?
