Hi,
I have a four story house (including basement) with bathrooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors. Every time I flush the upstairs toliets, I hear a banging sound as if the pipes are loose within the wall. Could it be possible that the pipes ( I am assuming they are PVC) were not fastened/braced properly? The toilets I have are Kholer. The house is 9 years old.

Is the banging coming from the drainage or the pressure pipes. Describe the sound. Regards, Tom

I am not sure, but I think it would be the drainage pipes. The sound is a hollow thump. I thought maybe the plumbing wall might not be insulated enough? I am by no means anywhere near a handy man or even a weekend handyman. Hope my response helps. If I am in the lower level bathroom, I could hear the water running through the pipes when the upstairs toilet flushes. What concerns me is the banging sound I hear. It seems to happen after the water/waste passes to the sewer, then about 1-2 seconds after that, I hear a thump.

Sounds like what you're hearing is the flush hitting the quarter bend at the base of the stack. PVC pipe seem to give out more noise then metal drainage pipes. Cheers, Tim
