    I'm leaking milk!
Hi. I've been leaking milk for about 4-5 days now. I know it's milk because the doctor told me today. My pregnancy test came out negative but I'm not sure why else I'd be leaking milk because I'm 20 an I've never had kids before. It's really annoyin too because it leaks through my top! I also have had diziness, headaches, backaches, feeling sick and tired so what else could this be or could the pregnancy test be wrong?

Was your test a urine test or blood test?

I took both. The blood test results I get next Monday. I sort of feel pregnant though, I'm not sure what else it could be?

Usually you don't leak very early in pregnancy, so you may be farther along than expected or there could be something else going on.

I would venture a guess that your blood test will come back positive.

Oh, I really hope I am pregnant. Why would the urine one say negative though? She checked for cancer and infections and said I was okay. Do you know what else it could be?

The urine may say negative because the hCG level may not be high enough in the urine yet.

Oh. How long does it take to be high enough? Sorry I'm far from being Einstein lol I'm clueless.

    LOL, that's okay.

Some women do not show up positive on an HPT or urine test until up to 12 weeks of pregnancy. It all varies from woman to woman. With all 4 of my pregnancies I NEVER showed up positive on a urine test until 12 - 14 weeks when the hCG should actually be going down in numbers.

Most women show a positive on a urine screen between 4 - 12 weeks pregnant. So those tests that say they detect 5 days prior to a missed period are not very accurate (that was part of our lecture in class today)

Ooh! Thank you very much for that! Much appreciated. I never missed my period, well, I bled for 4 days and it got very light the last two days but I read you can still have a period anyway. I am puzzled to what else it could be though, I mean surely my doctor would have known today if it was anything else wouldn't she?

Did you have a complete physical today? Meaning a pelvic exam?

No she just examined ma boobs because all the symptoms I have added up to pregnancy an she didn't know what else it could be so she just took a urine & blood test.

Will the blood test be 100% accurate?

It depends on which blood test she used. Qualitative or quantitative.

She really should have done a pelvic exam because a pelvic can reveal many things, i.e. a bluish tint to the cervix means you are pregnant.

If you are not pregnant, I recommend you check out this website. It is very informative about why women experience galactorrhea (leaking milk when not breast feeding).

Ooh thanks very much for that! I just checked it out! At a guess I'm thinking I'm pregnant. I have really bad heartburn right now! Unless that's a symptom of Galactorrhea but I have the backaches, headaches, feeling sick etc too so I guess I'll have to wait till Monday to find out! I hope it's 100% accurate otherwise I'm screwed!

Hun, heartburn does not happen until the middle of the second trimester or into the third.

A lot of times our "sixth sense" comes out to be true. So, if you feel like you are, you may just be.

Have you tried another HPT yet?

I read it can happen early days. A lot of different websites say different things so it's really confusing! An nah I haven't because if it's negative again it might not be accurate an just be a total waste of money! I might do though, I'm really tempted because my boobs have got worse. They're tingling like f**k atm an I have a bangin headache. Yeah I do "feel" pregnant, like I can't imagine not being pregnant, it's weird. Anyway, obviously I'm not smoking an drinking just in case I am!

It is possible that you are. Now, remember that any looney can post anything on the web. I am currently in Maternal and Child health in school and we are currently learning about pregnancy.

What you are leaking now, if you are pregnant, is called colostrum. It is what we make prior to milk. It is the healthiest for your baby as it is what contains all of our immunities to illnesses that we pass on to our babies when breastfeeding. The actual breast milk does not come in for approximately 3 - 5 days after breastfeeding begins.

Ooh, thank you! Well I'll let you know on Monday! I hope I am, like I said, I have no clue what else it could be as if I add up all my symptoms, the only answer I get is pregnancy, but will let you know. Thanks for all your help! :)
