    It control the amount of air going to an area, you have 4 options: whole system or zone and pneumatic or DDC, could be set to responde to temp or pressure

    Actually VAV is Variable Air Volume. Where its actually device that control damper in the air conditioning ducting.
    Example in the room have one temperature sensor and one supply grill. The supply grill connect to Air Handling Unit through a ducting. In the ducting have one VAV. This VAV is intelligent controller where its automatically calibrate based on set point temperature at temperature sensor. So the function of this VAV is control the opened of damper 0% to 100%.

    Vav that required min. outside air supply should not close to 0%
