I have advent laptop, windows vista. I turn on the laptop and the computer goes as far as the vista loading bar just before the password screen and freezes. When I start it in safe mode it says loading windows files and then freezes. When I try and repair windows it says this will take one hour and it just freezes. I've tried reinstalling windows and it goes a little way through and freezez. Every single option on all boot menus and stuff just freeze. Help!!

I can think of three possible things that you may wish to consider:

1) Have you verified that you computer has the necessary resources to run Windows Vista?

2) How old is the computer? I ask because the type of symptom that you are describing can occur as a result of a power supply on it's last legs. If the computer is 3 or 4 years old, and is used extensively, that is a very real possibility. Similarly, if your computer is loading the power supply to it's limit, you may see the same symptom even if the power supply is still good, simply because the output voltages will go too low for normal operation.

3) If the computer is older, or the memory is older, you may have defective RAM.

The laptop is about 6 months old and it came with vista... I'm thinking it's a virus as the problem happened when I turned off the computer after downloading a program called artmoney but I could be wrong
