Just trying to hookup the new thermostat. I have 4 wires coming out of the wall a red, black, green, and yellow. The red and black were twisted together and hooked up to my old honeywell on the screw next to (W). The green and yellow were also twisted together and were connected to the screw next to the (R). Anyone know how these wires would hook up to the new thermostat? Should they still be twisted together or individually attached. I have a furnace that is run by Kerosene(Oil), it is forced hot air, and has a fan.

I would leave the wires twisted and place them on the same letters in the new thermostat.

If it worked that way before, chances are if you connect the green/yellow to RH, and red black to W, it will work.

I thought it would be as simple as that but it did nothing when I hooked it up that way. I set the temp to 80 degrees and it did not come on. Is there something else I'm missing?

Are you sure the batterys are good? If they are not good the thermostat will not work or if battery is low will not work correctly.

It's funny you say that. The batteries I put in were showing that they were low but the manual says that the battery icon will blink for 120 hrs before it shuts down the furnace. I figured I would have at least enough juice to test it. I'll try better batteries. Also, the Rc and Rh had a jumper that I removed due to it being a 2 wire install. Did I do the correct thing with that?

RC is red cooling. No A/C, no need to connect RC. If it doesn't work with new batteries, try connecting both pairs of wires together. If the furnace doesn't run that way, there is a problem with it, perhaps a blown control fuse or transformer.

I hope its just the battery. I reconnected my old thermostat to make sure I had heat overnight and it worked fine.

Are you sure the batterys are good?

This question works most of the time with that model of thermostat. The batterys honeywell ships are junk.
