Written Consent to Extend a Lease, FL
My family and I are currently renting a property in Florida. We signed a year long lease. Our lease expires this month. In August, we asked the Landlord if they would be willing to extend the lease an additional 6 months, so our daughter could finish up the school year before we moved. They agreed in writing to extend the lease until May of 08. Well on the day that our lease was expiring, I received an email from the landlord stating that they were now going to sell the home and weren't going to extend the lease. No new lease was signed, however, we do have their written consent. Now, in the email, they are stating that we have 14 days to be out of the property. Had I known that they were going against their agreement, I could have made other arrangements. Now all I have is an email, breaking their written agreement to extend the lease and them telling me I have 14 days to be out. Isn't there anything I can do?

First, they have to give you a minimum of 30 days written notice to terminate your lease.

Second, you have an agreement in writing, signed by the landlord, to extend your lease for 6 months. They can't just break it. Tell them that if they want to break their agreement with you they're going to have to pay you. Otherwise you're staying.
