My cervical mucus varies month to month. Lately I have ovulated day 17 18 of my cycle but this month because I miscarried last month , my period was 10 days long and came in 2 parts - first part pain and bleeding then it tailed off (although didn't stop completely) and started again 5 days after with pain and heavier bleeding again. Which is day 1? Can anyone try and interpret my mad cycles! I just want to know when I might ovulate as I can't keep using the sticks as they are so expensive.

The FIRST day of bleeding (regardless of how long the period lasted) is day one.

Does this mean if I am ovulating day 18 this is too late to have a normal pregnancy?

Not at all... most women ovulate during days 11-17 of their cycles... some ovulate earlier, some later.
