    What are my housing rights?
Hi, I live with my parent in Texas and I am 19 years old. I work, I help pay for rent and I was promised my own little area upstairs and a room. They continually keep trying to move me and tell me I can't do this and that. They have told me multiple times to move everything into my room and threatened to turn off all the electricity.

Being as I help pay the rent, I consider myself a roommate rather than their child. Can they turn off the electricity if I help pay it? Can they tell me that I can't live in an area that they promised me? Am I not allowed to live how I want to live even though I help pay for everything they try to take from me?

Unless you have a written lease stating what area is designated as yours, they can pretty much tell you what to do. I doubt they will turn off the electricity, especially if they are living there with you - that sounds like an idle threat. However, if you are not on the electric bill - yes they can turn that off without your consent.

Maybe you should look to rent a room from someone else.
