    Defeatism hasn’t worked
In spite of the media's relentless defeatism over Iraq one might wonder whether political support for US military action will prevent any US action against Iran. A new poll indicates the defeatism hasn’t worked, 52% percent of Americans would support a US bombing campaign targeting Iran's nuclear program, and about the same number, 53%, already expect such a strike to occur before President Bush leaves office.

The support for a military strike among Republicans is strikingly high—71%—but in contrast to the dominance of the anti-war left in the Democratic primary, almost half of Democrats, 41%, would support an attack on Iran. This may explain that strong showing of the least pacifist Democratic candidate: the poll reports that "most see [Hillary] Clinton as the presidential candidate best equipped to deal with Iran, followed by Giuliani and McCain." But Senator Clinton's support on this issue is somewhat overstated: she leads only because Republicans were split between Giuliani and McCain.

    DC-

Although I'm not voting for Hillary, among the Democrats, she actually is more moderate as opposed to liberal on military issues. She's the only one that I can remember off the top of head that favors phased re-deployment out of Iraq, as opposed to many Democratic candidates that are aiming for immediate removal of troops. I would like to see the Democratic candidates address the Iran subject. My guess is that it is actually somewhat of a hot-potato subject for both parties. As for the Republicans, the Bush admin still has a lot on their plates concerning how to deal with Iran since this is happening on their watch, and could alter the race for both parties. The Democrats have to appear tough on the terrorism front and removal of dictators, but likewise want to appeal to voters favoring the action of re-deployment from the Iraqi war. I suspect they will triangulate the situation. From my perspective, initially I would had used more strategic bombing in Iraq and forced the Iraqis to give up on their dictator's government and then deliver Hussein into our hands. Judging by the civil conflicts and factions, I say that at least least half of the Iraqi population wanted him rid of as much as myself, an American. I'm for getting by with as little troop usage as possible. So IMO bombing Iran's nuclear program is a start, but will only stir the ant bed. We should level a few military installations and government buildings while we are at it. If we are going to take a stand and disapprove with force against defiant rogue nations with nuclear capabilities, then we need to make a strong impression.

Hillary would be doing better if she wasn't the target of the vast left wing conspiracy.

    It was a joke.

The context of the joke is the claim that Hillary made during the Clinton Presidency that he was under attack from the "vast right wing conspiracy " . This week during a Democrat debate she was under the gun by all the other Democrat candidates ;all male ,and for the most part more left leaning than the positions she has taken for this campaign . Her minions have responded by claiming the lone female was under assault by the males on the stage. So if it was a conspiracy against her I decided to point fingers at the most probable suspects .

Remember . For a good conspiracy theory facts are a secondary concern.

    Hello DC:

This just show's you how far out of step I am with your ordinary American. Given the Bushdudes failures, I would have guessed that only his base would support an attack on Iran. That would be about 20% of Americans. But, what do I know?

I guess fear mongering still works.

I believe that the majority of people realize that people Like Saddam can’t be trusted to have control of such weapons of mass destruction…what I don’t understand is why people like you do.

    Hello again, DC:

It's true. You don't understand, because you make assumtions about what I understand - and you haven't a clue. You do know about assumptions, don't you??

    We have nothing to discuss.

I know that it is impossible to form a proposition with-out making an assumption; but so what?

What this tells me is that despite the fact that the media has been trying to keep it from happening, the people are getting Bush's message. They get the fact that Ahmadinejad is a madman who will use nukes if he gets them and want to keep that fom happening. And they don't think that the old policies of "just waiting for things to sort out diplomatically" is going to work.

As yes ;the EU3 . I remember the futility well.

But now General Gates is reporting that with the ramped up pressure on Tehran by Washington ,incidents of attacks with Iranian made weapons is decreasing in Iraq ,and Iran has assured Iraq that the flow of weapons has stopped .
