    Is hacking true
I used to see in the movie like the Sword Fish, Die hard II etc. The way the characters in the movie used to hack in computers is wonderful that I want to know if is true and how can I learn even a step of it. Any idea is welcome.

Ummm. Yes it's mostly true. There are people out there that have the ability to do those types of things. Why in the world would you want to know how to do that? The majority of hacking is extremely illegal. Unless of course you work for a government agency of some sorts.

The way they show it on movies is laughable to computer techs like myself. Your first step would be to learn Unix and to learn Windows programming. Other than that no one here will help you with hacking as we would never know if you are a white hat or a black hat.

I've done it long before the existence of Windows. You just exploit non-thought out security behaviors of the operating system. Although not technically hacking, a grad student write a networking terminal handler and asked me to try it out. With in 5 minutes, I crashed it. I was able to make the character position go negative by typing 3 characters. That was a special case.

I could write my own programs that ran priveledged, by copying them into a the directory space of another priveledged program. I could run it and then put the old one back all because the protection was incorrect. I ended up working for these guys.

Safecracking and combination locks are fun to crack too. I learned that skill in high school on my own too for simple right-left-right or left-right-left locks. It takes me about 20 minutes.

Kind of fun when your in high school and have no $ and lots of time on your hands.

Did anyone see the movie Hackers? I always think its funny when they are hacking into the computers and the interface is entirely moving graphics all across the screen, but I guess they have to play it up!
