    Smoke Weed Everyday
Im addicted to pot. I LOVE IT, I have been smoking for over 8 years. I work a full time job and go to school, I'm a functional pot smoker, I'm so high strung that when I come home, I want to relax and smoke. That's my only vice, however I spend over 500 a week on it. Exspensive habit, anyway, eventually I want to have a baby, I know it can harm the baby, so I will have to stop. Any suggestions? Ive tried to chew gum, but I think its just my environment. What can I do to change my habits?

    Hello mj:

Pot is so cool. It's the easiest thing in the world to stop. All you have to do, is stop. There are NO ill effects - nothing. Yes, for a few days there will be an edge, but that goes away quick.

If you CAN'T do that, then you can't do much.

If you took the money you are spending on pot and pay down your credit cards, you will solve many of your problems.

Try exercise instead of pot. You'll get a natural high.

First, you need to admit that you are NOT a functional pot smoker. There is no such thing. Functional people may get high every now and again. Likewise, functional people may get drunk every now and again. But if they get drunk every day, they are alcoholics. You get high daily. You admitted in your original post that you're an addict. Think about it. Say the following out loud:

I am a drug addict. I am powerless over my addiction. My life is unmanagable. I need help.

You might try Narcotics Anonymous (http://www.na.org/). They can help you understand the nature of your affliction, and what you need to do to clean up.

    Good luck.

Pot is not a drug in my book, If I smoke everyday or don't. Everyone does "something" to relax, however I am working out at a gym and have smoked a lot less. Its just like ciggerates right, haha I do not need "help" from narcotics anonymous to stop. I was just asking for suggestions, and I appreciate everyone's comments. Thanks

    Hello again, MJ:

Your book is wrong. Pot IS a drug. Smoking it isn't wrong (in my view), but don't justify your behavior by denying it's a drug.

However, it's NOTHING like cigarettes - NOTHING. Cigarettes kill 350,000 people every year in this country alone. Cigarettes are POISON. They kill virtually EVERYONE who uses it.

Pot, on the other hand, never killed anybody.

Drugs are NOT for children. Plus, children should NOT be advising adults about drugs.

I don't smoke the pot, but I did quit smoking cigarettes a while back. Now, I know cigs are different, etc. But, here is some stuff that helped me quit:
    -Gum, gum, and more gum!
    -Exercise
-Staying busy. Figure out what times of the day/week you are most tempted to smoke. Try to plan fun things during those times. If you are having fun with friends or something, you will miss it/think about it less.
-Get a support system. Tell your friends that you will be quiting. Have an "accountability buddy". Make an agreement to be honest with this person. If you slip up, call them and talk about it. Have them call you during times you know you will be tempted.
-Pick a date to quit and stick to it. Cut back as the date approaches.
-Make a list of all the things you want to do with the money you will be saving.
-Plan for stress situations ahead of time. When you are most tempted, have something planned. Like, eat a chocolate bar or sing a funny song, or just whatever works for you.
-Reward yourself for every week you go without. Buy a little something you've been wanting, go see a movie, or make plans to do something really fun.
    Hope this helps! Good luck!

OK... I'm going to testify here... I'm ashamed to say that I smoked weed for 6 yrs. Towards the end, I started getting tired of it. I didn't like the high anymore. I wanted to quit, but I "FELT" like I couldn't. Every time I would smoke, I couldn't enjoy my high because I was beating myself up for smoking it again. I smoked everyday... however, I did not spend as much money on it as you do. I may have spent $50/week on it. Every night I would pray and ask God to please take that taste from my mouth so that I could quit... well, you know what? One day I was about to smoke and I said to myself "i don't want this"... then, it just continued... I've never smoked again, nor have I had the urge to smoke. Like excon said, the first few days will be a little edgy... your ill and mad at the whole world... but it doesn't last... it goes away... you find something else to occupy your mind until that edgyness goes away... then you're good... if, your strong minded and determined.

With any drug or addiction... you've truly got to WANT to quit before you can do it. I said I wanted to quit for a year before I ever did, so its not an overnight thing. Finally, that one day, I was just through with it and I quit. I've not smoked anything for over 3 yrs now and I am so proud of myself, as are my family and friends too. I can definitely tell a difference since I quit. I am much happier. My mood is better. I stayed depressed a lot while I was smoking and I would smoke "thinking" it was relieving the depression, but since I've quit, I realized it was only contributing to it. I have not suffered from depression since then. Some people say that your skin changes when you do drugs... since I've quit, a couple of people have told me that I've got that "glow" back in my face... I really don't know what they're talking about and I don't see it, but I've heard it's true. Plus, I have money to spend on other things now that I could never buy because I would use that money to buy a dime or quarter bag... to make a long story short... you can't quit until you're READY to quit and until you REALLY WANT TO. If there are certain people you hang out with who smoke or who you usually smoke with, stop hanging out with them as much so you won't be tempted. Or when they light it up, walk away, leave, make up some kind of excuse... if they try to clown you, then they are not your friends. Friend support the decisions of friends and want what's best for them. Don't let peer pressure get to you. Try cutting back first. Maybe you can't quit cold turkey like I did. Cut back on your supply and see if you can't just ween yourself off it. The only negative change that I've noticed since I quit is that I smoke cigarettes more. I used to didn't smoke cigs that much, but now, my addiction to them have increased and I smoke more than I did... that will be the next thing I work on...

But look, be strong... if you really want something bad, then you can get it, do it, have it, achieve it.. etc etc... anybody can do anything that they put their mind to... so if this is something you really want to do, then just try... you'd be amazed at what you're capable of that you never realized...

    GOOD LUCK TO YA!!

It depends on why you smoke it I smoke it because of religion I am rastafarian... if you are smoking it because you want to erase your problem that's the wrong reason to smoke it

Hi Ms. Jane! I about swallowed my chewing gum when I read that you spend over $500 a week on dope! A week!! Are you getting a small army high? I hope that weed your spending all your dough on is laced with gold! Holy crap that's a lot of greenbacks. My husband recently got out of the corps where, obviously, drug use is prohibited. Well he popped on a piss test and to everyone's amazement, didn't get booted. He did however lose rank, pay fines, take classes, and wasn't allowed to reenlist. Now that he's out, he's like a kid in a candy store. My little pothead. He bought a 1/2 pound way back in the end of June for $275 and he's still smoking the same bag. It's just regs but still. He freezes what's not being used in case you're wondering. And he smokes damn near every evening and several times on the weekends. He doesn't get rip roaring stoned, just regular high. Now if you can't tell, I am in no way, shape, or form against smoking pot. It's not really my thing though, it makes me weird and paranoid. But seriously girl, even if you are smoking KB's, $500 is outrageous! I think it's great you came here seeking advice because it sounds like you need it, bigtime if you're smoking $500 a weeks worth. I read your last post and I'm glad to hear you haven't been smoking a lot. Keep up the good work!

Yup you're smoking $500 a week on pot, how will you afford that baby you are trying for?

You know (excon don't disagree with me, this is fact), pot is one reason for infertility in both men and women. Just like pot slows your brain it also slows sperm. It also changes the sperm, it has been reported that some sperm actually have 2 tails rather than one, which makes them actually die more quick, and they can't get to their destination.

Pot is very dangerous to baby if you are pregnant, causing a multitude of problems.

So, you really need to get your priorities straight.
