My husband isn't mechanically inclined and I rent my home from a ghetto landlord who says for me to fix things and send him a bill. So I live in a 1500 sq ft. mobile home, and right now my power to one of my bathrooms, my dining room and my sons room will not work. The TV in my sons room that is plugged in works fine, but the light switch will not turn on and yes I have changed the light bulbs. The bathroom lights will not turn on and the power outlet does not work in there either. The dining room, the power outlets work, but the light from the chandelier will not turn on.

Do you have any suggestions for me on what I can try to do to either investigate this problem further or to fix it for good? This is very frustrating especially when we have guests over. I live in the country already and in a mobile home at that but running an extension cord into the bathroom for a lamp to light it so you can see is just sounding a bit "too redneck" for me lol! Please help! :o

I don't know if you know anything about lighting wiring or not, but you wouldn't be wrong to hire an electrician and send the bill for labor and the parts to your landlord. Ours is the same way and we always take out the cost of travel for parts too, even if we do it ourself. Maybe one day he will get the hint that he is responsible and also a moron. XD

Either way, if you cannot fix it, he has to, you have to have lights and power for your home to be habitable and it is illegal to rent out/charge payment for a home that is not habitable.

If it's power and lights I'm guessing there's some serious wiring to be done.

Just out of curiousity, did you check the breaker?

Yes, the breaker. The lights and outlets could be on separate circuits. Sometimes you can hardly tell a breaker is off by where the handle is. If there is a breaker marked for the lights, turn it all the way to off and back on.

If you can't find and reset a breaker, then maybe call the electrician. It is a pain going through and checking all the connections.

Yeah I have tried that, its been going on for almost a month. I think you guys may be right its time for an electrician. Its just the strangest thing, it is only on one side of the house. If you are looking at the front it would be the back side of the mobile home right side. The rooms effected are side by side, but then the kitchen is fine. Kitchen is next to dining room which has issues then bathroom then sons room. And since the TV works in sons room you would think the light switch would, but that's why I am not an electrician lol. -Side note... went to check the breaker again and my electrical panel is hot to touch. Think this can wait for the hubs to get home or should I call now?

You could be looking at a major short... it might be time to call the eletrican
