I have a 18' long by 8' wide aluminum carport awning that is attached at one end to the garage fascia with wood lag bolts and the other end is supported by two 2-1/2'' metal poles that are bolted to the concrete. These supports are not straight they have an "s" bend in them which allows a wider opening between the supports for vehicles to park towards the bottom. To make the entrance under the carport wider... so that the supports don't get hit by my truck... I removed one of the supports and fabricated a support arm which attaches to the header of my house. Now I want to move the other support leg out approx. 24''... I want to fabricate a cantilever support using a 4'' x 4'' steel column with some sort of arm so that I can attach it to the main support for the carport there fore giving me an unrestricted opening.
Can anyone give me some design recommendations for this... would appreciate it.. Thank You!! :)
