    How to disconnect wiring
I have a phone jack in my dining room and one in my kitchen. Each jack works properly. My problem is there is also an old wire coming out from beneath the jack cover and is nailed across my kitchen countertop to the other jack and under its cover. I need to remove the wire in order to have a new countertop installed but I do not know if I can do it myself or if I'd better leave it alone!! Any help out there? Thank you in advance, Jeanie

You should have a home owners access at the box where the phone service comes into the house. If you open the door you can unplug the service wire to make your repairs. It will be the same style plug that you use to plug your phone in on the inside jacks.

Draw a diagram of colors and connections to both jacks. Disconnect wire. You will likely lose at least 1 phone. Tape or cap ends of wire. Leave like that until completed.
Or run temporary jumper to allow cabinet work(preffered),
