    Dripping Toilet
The past couple of weeks, there's been a dripping noise coming from my toilet. It's been getting louder and more constant over time. I can hear the sound of water dripping, like from a sink, but it seems to be coming from inside my toilet. There's no leak, and nothing in the tank looks weird. Any idea what this is?

Dripping water inside comes from two places. The ballcock when it runs all the time and won't shut off or a flapper that warped and lets the water drop down to the bowl. My bet's on door #2. Take the lid off and feel the flat side of the flapper. If it has wavy edges, rough or your hand comes away black change it out. Now feel the seat on the flush valve underneath. It should be smooth with no nicks or rough spots. Let me know how you make out. Tom

I'll try that... if you tell me what exactly a "flapper" is. :o

A flapper is that rubber gizmo on a chain that lifts when you flush. Check for wavy edges and if you find any replace it. Regards, Tom
