    Dark pink and grey gums
I am 25 years of age and a smoker since 4 years. Now I've noticed that there is two tone color in my gums ranging between pink to brown and grey, taken advice from the dentist who thinks that this has to do nothing with smoking and it is just a hormonal change. Kindly advise that is there any connection between smoking and the change of color of gums and is there any reverse process to minimize the damage done to the gums?

Smoking increases the speed of gum disease but that affects the bone. Other than oral cancer I'm not aware of any tissue changes, especially of colour, related to smoking.
The only thing I can suggest is... quit smoking! :)

Hi I just saw this -- and I was recently treated for this

You you should contact a specialist who can help treat it... gum specialists or periodontists can help (but most of them don't treat pigmented gums ) -- I had my gums treated by Dr Farnoosh and it really helps me feel more comfortable smiling... he basically invented the procedure and was published extensively for it... I liked him he was very compassionate and it didn't hurt at all. He treats lots of celebrities in beverly hills...

You might want to look at his website at this link (below):

Thank you for sharing this simonellis. I was unaware there was a procedure available. I will definitely have to share it with the dentist I work for!

Yes your gums can become a darker color. I have been smoke free for 2 years and they are turning a nice pink color and will get even better in color over the next year. Stop Smoking is the first thing to do. My daughter is a hygen: and told me this color change would take place. God I am proud of myself and my teeth I am 67 years of age.
