    Brown walls in toilet tank.
    Hi,

My white toilet tank has dark brown walls and a streak in the bowl that comes clean but always returns. Now we are noticing an odor in the entire bathroom. We can't seem to find where it's coming from. My husband did accidentally drill a hole in what seemed like an exhaust pipe in the wall some odd years ago but he plugged it up. Any guesses? We're a step away from tearing the bathroom apart for fear of mold spores lingering throughout the house. Thanks.

If your house is a older home with galvanized pipes the brow stuff is iron oxide,(rust). If the hole in the vent hasn't opened up then I would take a hard look at the wax seal in the toilet. If it's ruptured it can still contain water but not sewer gas. Good luck, Tom
