Sewer smell from shower drain in basement.
There is a sewer-like smell coming from the drain in my basement shower? I have tried putting baking soda down in and white vinegar. What can I do?

    Thank you!

Most bad oders in bathroom drains come from rotting hair mixed with grease from the soap. Try this. Tonight before you go to bed pour 1/2 gallon of bleach down the shower drain and let it set overnight. Next morning flush it down with a few large pans of boiling water. The bleach will start to dissolve and soften the hair and make it slippery and the boiling water will melt the grease and flush the mess out into the main. Now see if that smelly drain doesn't smell sweeter? Hope this helps . Tom

M2, Tom's mix works well and you are only one ingredient off with your mix. The baking soda needs to be mixed with table salt, 1/4 cup of each. Mix the two and dump in the drain followed by a cup of vinegar. The rest is like Tom say, over night and boiling water. They both work, Tom just never met my mom who crammed her recipe into my empty head.
