I have had what appeared to be dirt coming up into my bathtub after using it. The plumber snaked the pipe and said that he hit mud and that the end of the snake was shiny which indicated to him that the pipe is broken. He believes that the break is probably under the kitchen floor which is on slab. Are there any options besides tearing up the floor? Any help will be appreciated.

When faced with the same problem out on a job, (the customer didn't want her floor torn up either) I was lucky enough to be able to tunnel under the foundation and repair the pipe that was broken. If the broken pipe's anywhere near a outside wall then your plumber might be able to do the same thing. Good luck, Tom

Saw this on This Old House recently so it is probably too expensive. A sewer contractor was able to rod out a line and install a liner. The liner appeared to be a paste like goop that was forced into the pipe which also had a clear plastic liner tube inside. They did not give the each details but apparently this is an option now adays. What have you heard Tom?
