    Mean Female Cat
    Hi,

I need help trying to understand why my 1 year old female cat does not like anyone to visit my home. She becomes very feral to my guest, hissing, biting, scratching and even trying to attack my young grandchildren. She is not spade yet and goes in and out of heat often. I really need to know what I can do so that she is not his aggressive and mean with
Everyone. She is also this way with those who live at my place (my son and I) when others are visiting. She is not a really lovable cat to begin with but is really horrible when others are at my home. Any ideas? Thanks

I am a cat owner to 4 cats. All 4 are different breeds. I can tell you that every cat has its own personality just like a person. My 1st question is: was there a prior owner to the cat before you. It is possible that the cat was abused or tormented prior to you owning the cat. I say this because I have a cat just like that. She doesn't like being around people and especially children. I was told my the vet I got here from that she was tormented. So I give her a lot of space. She nows hides under the bed a lot and comes out when she wants to. I make sure food, water is close by and the litter box is cleaned daily. I keep my bedroom closet door open. She likes to retreat to hide in the closet behind the shoes and clothes. She comes out when she wants to now and hides whenever she wants. She growls at people who come near here. But ironically she sometime is very tame. Simply by leaving her alone and not bothering her.

Another solution is to take the cat to the vet. They have a temperament shot they can give the cat. Its not expensive at all. I hope this helps!

I think what Springsgirl is referring to is the distemperment vaccine, which is not a way to control a feline mood. Distemper is a virus and can be transmitted through the respiratory and excretion systems, it is often found in puppies and small mammals. I've owned many cats in my life, the most odd were always the females... is it fixed? Felines aren't pack animals, for the most part, and find life just fine by themselves... maybe that's why you find it hard to understand why your cat wants nothing to do with you... heehee. Cats are unique but it is important to remember that they are very independent when they grow older, and each kitty case is different. One of my cats, Maceo, use to not like anyone when she was younger, but now that she is older she warms up to most people. She exhibited the same behavior as you described. I usually give her space and leave her be, eventually she ends up in my lap haha. Hope this helps anyone. - Dr. CAS
