Ok you, I need some thoughts. I know you answer 'am I pregnant' questions all day long, but I need to know what others think about my odds. Here's the story, my employers finally decided to provide health insurance for us (family owned and operated so never had before) that was placed into effect 10/15. So I was uninsured from may to just this past oct 15. I did have a few packs of the pill left from when my husband was active duty in the marine corps and I had insurance. Well I finished the last pack I had on 10/11. I was going to go to planned parenthood to get it but they told me it'd be an initial $70 ($42 fee + cost of pill) and I didn't have the money without putting it on plastic which we've been trying to avoid since we're trying to get out of debt. And besides, I'd hate to have spent $70 only to turn around one month later when I had insurance and pay another $70ish again ($35 copay + cost of pill). So I figured I'd be fine for 4 days until the insurance kicked in. Well 4 days turned into still counting... I've got the card, but as my luck would have it, my name is wrong and I have to wait another 48 hrs to register. Now here's where my husband and I get stupid. So my period was from 10/4 to 10/11 and I didn't start a new pack. On 10/13 (2 days pill free) we had unprotected sex (ejaculated in me). Then again on 10/17 (6 days pill free) unprotected (drunken) sex again but he pulled out (I know... that doesn't mean anything). And since then we've been using condoms. I know, we're a couple of idiots. We had planned on being pregnant sometime at the end of next year. Like I said, we're trying to get out of debt and a child right now would hurt our already strained finances, but we'd make it work if we had to. I was browsing through threads on the desk and came across a link to an ovulation calender that macksmom posted. I entered my info and feel even stupider now for never knowing before today when I ovulated :eek: So now I'm kind of freaking out more so than I was before. My husband and I are anxiously waiting until the 1st when my period is due again. In the meantime, do you think we screwed up bigtime by getting drunk and horny and having unprotected sex? I've always heard that it typically takes a month of being off the pill for the average woman to conceive. Is that an old wives tale? I know no one can tell me if I'm pregnant or not, but I also know there are people here who at least have kids and are much more educated as far as conceiving after birth control is concerned than I am. Please don't yell at me and tell me how irresponsible we are, because we already know :(

Ok... so let see here... you were a week overdue on the pill the last time you had unprotected sex, and he pulled out (of course you can get pregnant this way, but the chances are much lower than if he ejaculated in you).

So usually most women ovulate about 11-17 days into their cycle... so, girl you had sex on day 10 and day 14! Right during your peak ovulation... ugh. The chances are pretty good that you could have got pregnant... but don't go crazy on me yet ;)

Now... towards a different direction to try and ease your mind. ;) Depending on how long you have been on the pill and how your body reacts it can take some time for the birth control to completely get out of your system. Some people get pregnant the first month after being off it, but for most it takes awhile for your body to produce hormones at the right levels without the presence of the pill.

Really it's just a waiting game now... if your body cleared the birth control quickly, there is a good possibility you could have got pregnant... BUT there is always the chance that you didn't.

So are you starting the pills again, or waiting until you start your period? The hard part is, that because you were off because pills this month your period might very well be irregular and you might not start when you think you are going to start... so try not to stress, it will just make things worse as it could effect your cycle further or make you miss altogether.

I know it's a waiting game now:( As far as getting back on the pill, I'll be able to use my insurance on Friday, at which point I probably will be able to get into the doc by next week. My period is supposed to start next thurs 1st. So at this rate, I may as well wait until my period is done to start a new pack right? That's IF it comes :eek: I'm not too much worried about irregularity after I start back up as I'm quite used to spotting between periods :mad: I'm keeping my fingers and toes and eyes crossed that I'm one of those that takes a bit for my body to even back out after the pill. I've also been known to start a day or two late so really I'll be playing this awful game through next weekend. We shall see... If I'm still without 'aunt flo' by Sunday 3rd night, I'll take a test. I sure will let you know what happens come Monday the 4th. Man I sure do feel like a moron for never knowing about my ovulation:o I was initially a little worried, but then I saw that nifty calender and really started to panic. Oh well. It's out of my hands now.

Yeah, I would wait until you start you period until you start the new pack... as usually that's when you are to start taking the pills anyway.

As far as the irregularity goes, I was referring to your period possibly being late because of not taking the pill this month... but luckily you seem to know what's normal for you :)

I agree with you... if you don't have your period by the first weekend in November... time to take a HPT... if its negative I would also say take a blood pregnancy test just to be sure before you start the pills again.

Hey quick question, I managed to expedite the insurance name correction process and was able to get an appointment for this Monday. That's 3-4 days before my period's due. Can the doc do a blood test then to see if I'm knocked up? That early? I know they have HPT's that say they work up to 5 days before missed periods, but would a blood test tell me 3-4 days early too? You know, before I go spending money on the pill.

Ok, now that I'm better composed :p Your doctor will want to do a blood test to make sure you aren't pregnant before prescribing you birth control... they may suggest a urine test, but honestly the urine tests at the doctors are the same as in the store... so I would request a blood test. You are so close to being due, a blood test might just give you the answer you need... if the doctor is unsure they will ask you to re-test in about a week.
I wouldn't plan on starting any birth control for about a week.

Ok thanks :p I was going to wait until my period was over to start a fresh pack anyway. You know, the first active pill. Now I just have to find out if a blood test is paid for by my insurance. Probably. My husband doesn't seem to think so though :rolleyes: If not, I'll just do it the old fashioned way and wait for a missed period :) Thank you so much for all your help!

Hi I agree with everything said here, but I just wanted to add that Katie's chances of getting pregnant this particular month are pretty small. A lot of women who are TRYING to get pregnant take months to conceive (I took 12 months and 10 months with my two). A couple who are using withdrawal (which is the least reliable form of birth control) has a 20% chance of conceiving in a year (20/12, or less than 2%/month). Even with no birth control at all, the chances over the course of a whole year are "only" 85%. So, that would be like (85/12) 7%/month. I'm not trying to say people don't need to worry, especially if they make a habit of being careless (which I know KatieP doesn't!). I just mean that in any given month, it's good not to panic until there's actually some sign, like a missed period.

Ok, I don't actually have another question, just an update. So I went to the doctor yesterday and they didn't give me a pregnancy test. Grrrrr. She was just so convincing in that I probably wasn't pregnant. Perhaps I should have put my foot down :mad: Anyway, I haven't quite been myself this past week or so. For about a week now, my emotions have been off the charts. I'm talking violent mood swings. So much in fact that my husband suggested that maybe I was becoming bipolar :rolleyes: One moment I'm sweet as sugar, the next I'm mad as cat in a tub, then the next I'm crying like a little baby over something so wildly stupid like my husband getting me a pop instead of a frosty from Wendys :eek: The other thing that's a bit out of the norm is, since Sunday all I can seem to do is sleep! To say I'm fatigued is putting it mildly. My body has just been like lead. When I get home from work, as soon as my rear end hits the couch/recliner, I'm OUT. Other than those two things, I'm all right. No nausea or breast tenderness. Headaches, yes, but that's a common daily thing for me. So I'm thinking that I'm just having severe PMS. I'm due for my period on Thursday. If it's not here by Sunday, I'm taking a test. I'll let you know Monday. This waiting sucks :(
