    Slow filling cistern
Hi my dad has just installed a new push button cistern.
The instructions were not very helpful however every thing looked OK, but when we connected the water we found that the cistern was filling very slowly. Right now its taking about 20 minutes to fill, there isn't any hissing jet of water, and apart from that everything is working fine.
    Any advise is welcome,
    Thanks,
    Nicole.

I could be wrong but I'm fairly certain dad posted this question later this morning. Its either that or two people both have the same slow filling push button cistern.

Hi thanks for the answer but, no our problem is different, the cistern is holding the water its just that its taking an age to fill.
We have looked at the cistern again and think that its something to do with a rubber grommet that is supposed to push the water through but isn't.
We could be completely wrong though.

There is a valve near the top of the ballcock that can be opened and cleaned, shut the supply line off below the cistern first. If it's a plastic ballcock chances are it's a Fluidmaster. Tom the plumber will post a diagram on how to disassemble it. If its brass the steps to open are more apparent but be sure the supply is off. If there is no obstruction at the ballcock valve then I suspect debris at your shut off (angled stop cock) below the tank. This would require shutting off the main near the meter.

I've put up two ballcocks. Which one do you have? Regards, Tom
