Hi,

I just bought my first condo (YAY) and redid my whole kitchen. I shut off the water, took out the sink, cabinets etc, I noticed some water damage on the old cabinets under the hot water inlet, but they were old, I didn't think about it.

Everything is back in place, and I turn on the water and there is a leak out of the hot water wall inlet I have narrowed down where it is coming from. I have attached a diagram with an arrow. The tip of the arrow is where the leak is. Is there a way to fix this without having to request the water shut off for the building (as it's a small building its all or none, I can't just shut off my water).

No problem. The chrome nut's called the bonnet packing nut. To stop the stem from leaking open the valve up a bit and simply snug up the bonnet packing nut until the leak stops. Do not overtighten . Good luck, Tom

Thank you speedball, Im not sure I understand what it is your telling me to tighten, can you take a picture or show me in a diagram?? It is leaking right where the stem goes in to the bigger pipe, so where do I tighten?

You already have a picture of a angle stop. The bonnet packing nut is the nut on the stem just under the handle. To stop the stem leak open the valve up a bit and simply snug up the bonnet packing nut clockwise until the leak stops. Do not overtighten . Good luck, Tom
