    Stuck at a dead end!
    Hi
    My name is vaughn.
    The question I have is
How do my wife and I obtain the deed to a house that we are living in?
    Here is the problem.
The house is in my wife's grandfathers name who died maybe 15years ago .my mother inlaw move in to take over the house and never changed the deed. There are like 7 other sibling of hers, none of which show any interest in the house, who I think also have rights to the house, I guess! Well in the last year she died (my mother inlaw)and we moved in to pick up where she left off. The house needs lots of repairs. We are stuck trying to make the major repairs with out help. Can't get a loan on the house we can't pay the back taxes which are about $22000 dollars because we are not on the deed .the house is paid for and none of the siblings will sign over the house.
What can we do? I really feel stuck putting the money into it just to have it snatched away from us. Is there anyway around the family ?
    Help please!!

    Hello vaughn:

    You should hire an attorney.

You are going to have to file a probate for the wife's grandfather.
First all of the grandfathers children ( unless there was a will) will have equal rights to the home. Next depending on your state law as to what rights the grandchildren will have if there is any living children left.

But it is possible that there will be dozens of owners and to get full ownership you would have to get each one to sign over their rights to the home.
