You were so helpful last time I asked a question that I am coming back with another.

I am using OTLOOK EXPRESS in Windows 98 for e.mail purposes.

In the sub menu selected by hitting "Inbox" there is a variety of options such as "save", "Sent", "draft" etc.

I want empty the one entitled "Deleted Items" When I select it the egg timer ((Windows 98 flag) starts waving and continues to do so indefinitely. The only way to stop it is to close OUTLOOK EXPRESS by keying Alt/Ctrl/Del and ending the task.

    Can anyone help me please?

    Gesto:

Try this first; Right click on your Deleted Items folder and choose Empty "Deleted Items" Folder. If it's very full, it may take quite awhile to empty.

If you're still having problems, you may need to clean up your PC a bit. Run a defrag, clear out your web cache. Post back if you still have a problem or aren't sure how to run a defrag, etc.

    Update:

I searched for additional information on your problem, in case my first suggestion doesn't help. I found the following at InsideOE - Store folder:

    Close OE
    Delete the DeletedItems.dbx file.
When you restart OE, your Deleted Items Folder should be recreated.

I'm not sure of the exact path to locate your file on Win98 as I have WinXP Pro and I don't believe you can locate it in exactly the same place mine is stored. The locations, from the above site are:

    1. C:\Windows\Application Data\Outlook Express\{GUID} I found nothing in this folder in my WinXP. I think this is where you will find your Deleted Items.dbx file.

    Or

    2. C:\Documents and Settings\<User>\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{GUID}\Microsoft\Outlook Express This is where my Deleted Items.dbx file is located.

I haven't actually tried this, so I can't say for sure that it will work. According to Inside OE, the instructions will work, but I can't absolutely recommend it since I don't have first hand knowledge. That's not to say it's bad information, I just can't say unequivocally that it absolutely works.

I hope one of these works for you.

    Rose,

I feel like a fraud. Even before you gave me your expert opinion and hopefully a solution, access to the "deleted" folder became possible and all the files were deleted for me. I don't know how or why, but the result is exactly what I wanted.

You really are most kind. Very many thanks till the next time.

    LOL Gesto:

Maybe the folder was just having a bad day, or was in a "mood." Glad you're all sorted out.
