    Taxes in two states
    Hello,

I recently moved from Oregon to Connecticut for good for the same company. I moved to CT in Aug but my family was still in OR. My family moved to CT in Sept. My wife was working in OR before we moved to CT. I know that we will have to file returns in both states. I have following questions. Any help is appreciated.

    * After I started working in CT, I was in the temporary living in CT and my company payroll had the OR home address. There were two state tax deductions (OR and CT) from my paycheck. Will I be paying taxes in OR or CT for the income earned in CT for the period my family was still in OR?
    * My wife had income in OR from Aug – Sept. Is she going to pay taxes in OR or CT for Aug and Sept? I am confused as we have an overlap between the two states. We will file “married filing jointly”
    * For the entire temporary living in CT, will I be able to deduct the expenses from income? If yes, what types of expenses and proof of expense do I need?
    * Which state is resident and non-resident?

You will pay Oregon taxes for income earned while in Oregon, and Connecticut taxes for income earned while in CT.

    Same as above.

You should be able to deduct some moving expenses, but your daily living expenses will NOT be deductible, as your situation does not meet the criteria for being "temporary".

You will be part-year resident for both Oregon and Connecticut.
